In Ontario, Canada, eligibility criteria for hereditary cancer testing has previously been limited to breast and ovarian cancer, Lynch syndrome and polyposis. In 2021, Provincial Hereditary Cancer Testing was implemented to expand the eligibility criteria and increase clinically appropriate access to cancer genetic testing in the region1. Two community laboratories required an expanded hereditary cancer testing solution that would enable them to:

- Fulfil the updated Ontario guidelines
- Keep testing in-house
- Utilize a user-friendly secondary and tertiary analysis platform
- Maximize efficiency of their laboratory workflows

Both hospitals required an optimal solution that could effectively meet their needs, as well as those of the local governing body. The teams were aware of the financial, logistical, and technical challenges associated with adopting a custom panel.
