Building Multicultural Innovative Partnerships to Bridge the Gaps in Global Healthcare
As the Regional Manager for Latin America at SOPHiA GENETICS, I’m in charge of leading a team of nine people that are managing more than 10 countries across the region. Over my educational years I enjoyed acquiring a strong scientific background studying in France and the US, but I didn't see myself working solely in science my whole life. I wanted to work in an environment where I could apply science to directly impact people's lives. For that reason, I studied to get my MBA in Global Business from Thunderbird School of Global Management.
It does require a lot of motivation and commitment to manage such a diverse and heterogenous territory and I believe my strongest ability is to adapt well to these multicultural environments. I've always appreciated cultural challenges, both in my personal and professional life constantly moving around, adapting to new languages and geographies ever since I was little. When SOPHiA GENETICS announced in May 2016 it was expanding internationally, it seemed like it was a perfect match with the fine blend of science, clear impact on patients’ lives and multicultural challenges I was looking for.
My work on a daily basis requires interacting closely with our partners (healthcare organizations) all across the region. Even though I am based in Brazil I constantly travel and create new long lasting relationships with people that differ strongly in the way they interact and communicate. An aspect of my work I really appreciate is to always have to juggle between those learned cultural tools on hand to take the correct approach to connect with someone and understand his needs.
Finally what motivates me the most about working for SOPHiA GENETICS in Latin America is the disruptive approach and technology we bring to this region. When considering a set of countries that are recently emerging in the field of genomics or radiomics, we provide them the 2 to 3 years leap forward in innovation that they require to offer the same kind of health treatment as in Paris or New York. At SOPHiA, we are truly bridging this gap to deliver solutions that will enable clinicians and health institutions to better serve their patients and democratize Data-Driven Medicine.
